At the very first stage of the project LEGO models were helpful to play around with different steering mechanisms.
lego modell
This was a different steering concept. It seemed promising at first but caused too many problems later and was dismissed during the process.
lego modell
In a next step a wooden mock-up was built to learn about steering characteristics and the effects of changing lever dimensions.
lego modell
While getting closer to a drivable construction we built a full scale steel model that could carry a person.
lego modell
The basic mechanical components were attached and countlessly modified.
lego modell
To develop the shape of the final steel frame we used wire models.
lego modell
The wire frame models were copied in CAD to work on the details and identify exact dimension for the final vehicle.
lego modell
Stainless steel pipes were bent, cut and welded together according to the CAD model´s dimensions.
lego modell
At the same time we worked on a joint that woult tilt and bend the back wheel in an organicly floating move.
lego modell
After finding a working solution for the joint the single parts were CNC milled.
lego modell
Some of the custom made aluminum parts we used for the drive mechanism.

The final vehicle was just finished the night before racing day.
Therefore we had to skip test driving but fortunately everything worked reliably.
